North Devon Rocket ClubRocket Workshop
this page is to show anyone, the type of model rockets that can be bought as kits, or scrap built, which means buying component parts and building the rocket from your own imagination, high and low power rockets, there differences, types of low to high power motors that can be used, launch systems, and recovery systems.
Low power motors, are the motors that everyone starts on, and range from Impulse (power of the motor in Ns), A to C, Medium power motors range from D to G impulse, and High power range from H to L/M impulse.
The photograph above shows C and D impulse motors, igniter and plug
these motors can be bought in packs of 3, 18mm and 24mm in diameter.
this is a medium power motor, which has a wired igniter
these are bought individually
E to G impulse, 29mm diameter.
this is a high power rocket motor, to buy this type of motor
you must have an explosive licence (which can be obtained through the Police),
impulse range from the lowest 'H' to highest 'M',
to obtain level 1, you must successfully fly and recover your rocket on H impulse motor.
to obtain level 2, you must successfully fly and recover your rocket on I to J impulse motor.
to obtain level 3, you must successfully fly and recover your rocket on K to M impulse motor.
You can buy various rockets sizes that all these motors fit, but the higher the impulse motor the
more expensive the rocket.
With level 1 and 2 rockets, before flights, you must show the range safety officer, how the rocket has been constructed, and show him or her, how you have packed your parachute and how you have put the motor into the rocket, when the RSO is satisfied, you can make your flight, with the RSO's guidance.
with level 3 rockets, you must show the RSO, every stage of the building of the rocket, at the end of the building of the rocket, if the RSO deems the rocket ready for flight, you will be issued a certificate, all flights over 2,000 ft, the CAA will be notified .
